Criminal Records
We offer Criminal Records from two sources, because the States and Counties provide different records to different companies, so coverage is severely missed by using just one source. NOTE: As of yet there is no such thing as a Nationwide Criminal Search that can be done instantly. Currently only 41 States have limited criminal records available On-Line, so if you believe you are receiving a National Search, if fact you may not be. Of the States not currently on line, you can do a manual search that can take up to 10 business days, and most can only be performed by Mail-In Request, along with additional Court fees. Examples: New York, 5 business days, $54.00 in court fees. Or Massachusetts: 5-10 business days, $30.00 in court fees, with signed disclaimer. So, do not let someone tell you they have special access to state or government records, because they do not, and will not, because of the State & Federal Laws governing access to court records.
Which criminal search is right for tenant screening?
Criminal screening for tenancy usually should only be based on actual convictions. The most economical and effective solution for screening tenants are the National Criminal Search, and the RAPSHEET National Criminal Search listed above.
